Contest Brief

Hello, I am looking for an A3 (420H X 297W) poster design for a live music event.

The Title of the event is 'Sounds of the Universe'.

The live music will be Gongs and Crystal Singing Bowls played along with NASA recorded sounds from space.

The venue is an omni (180 curved) shaped theater/cinema and will be projecting images from space during the performance.

I am therefore looking for a design that incorporates both space and gongs (gong pictures attached). Please feel free to put forward any ideas you may have but do include gongs and space in the design. I am currently thinking of a gong rising above the Earth like a moon or a shining sun in the night sky. I particularly like the attached picture titled 'Gong in Space' although I need a design in a 'Portrait' layout and it would be good if the gong was a little more clear in the picture.

Regarding the text, please use all of the following words (any order you wish):

SOUNDS OF THE UNIVERSE
A LIVE SOUND AND VISUAL JOURNEY INTO SPACE
PLANET GONGS, CRYSTAL SINGING BOWLS AND NASA SPACE SOUNDS
28 NOVEMBER
SCITECH PLANETARIUM

Also attached are pictures of my gongs. Please use at least one or more of these pictures in your design and do not use any other pictures of gongs you may find on the internet.

Many thanks and good luck

Andrew

Fantastic ideas and designs everyone, loved some more than others but everyone contributed something great. I'll need a day or 2 to show all the active entries to a few friends and get some fresh opinions. Don't worry if you are not yet at 4 stars, if I haven't rejected it yet, there is something I like about it. Good luck!

THANK YOU everyone for entering. Gosh, only 6 hours to go and some very strong entries to choose from. This is not going to be easy to pick a winner.

Congratulations if you are still in the race, I felt sad rejecting so many solid entries but thought it best to narrow the field down now we are in the final hours. If you're design is still active there are elements I love and feel are worth developing. Hopefully my comments have helped.

    Good luck to you all.

Big congratulations to those entries who are still active. If your entry is still in the race then there are elements in your design that work well for me. Even 1 star ratings have something good going on and could be developed. I do like the entries that convey a sense of what the venue looks like (a seated audience looking up at a curved cinema screen. I like brighter space pictures and clear text on a clean design. Hope that helps. Also SO sorry to reject some of your fantastic work, I have liked a lot of stuff that I rejected - only because they don't quite work for the event - not because it is a bad design. Good luck everyone.

Huge thank you to EVERYONE who has entered, I feel so bad rejecting some of your great designs. Some of them are great but just don't always convey what I think the event will look like on the night. I've tried to give you all detailed feedback - so I hope I've helped. Over the past two days I've learned I like a seated, calm audience in the image (it's not essential though) to convey the curved OMNI-MAX cinema to potential guests and I still love seeing gongs featured in space (Gongs are the main part of the live sound). Good luck everyone:)

Hi everyone, thank you all SO much for all your hard work, I've tried to reply to you all. There have been some nice designs but not all have been appropriate - sorry. I hate rejecting your work but feel it helps everyone save time.

Some things I've noticed I like are designs with an audience (not essential) but best if the audience is looking engaged, relaxed and young or mixed age. The music will be relaxing so a seated audience is good.

I also like spiral galaxy's, the rings of Saturn and gongs flying in space.

Text is also important and the words 'Planet Gongs, Crystal Singing Bowls and NASA Space Sounds' should be clear in the design. The least important element is the date and place, this can be at the bottom of the design.

Hope this helps, these are the most frequent comments I make.

Good luck everyone - love your work, wish you could all win something.

Hi everyone, thank you SO much for your efforts and ideas to date. I thought it may help if I made some further suggestions:

    - Please remember to make your design in 'portrait'.
    - Please don't use the 'Gong in Space' picture as I don't own it, I only uploaded it so you would have an idea of what I had in mind.
    - Be good to see some colors in space (could be red or blue nebulas or another planet in the background etc)
    - The event is a live music event in an omni cinema so you could incorporate an audience looking up into the screen watching a space film - don't need to but it's a thought.
    - I like simple '2001 A Space Odyssey' type fonts.

Hope that helps, I'll continue commenting on your designs as much as I can over the next 4 days - thank you so much for entering.
