Contest Brief
I would like to put together a cover image for a science journal. 3D GRAPHIC DESIGNERS required. Sample images for previous cover arts attached so you know what to expect in the final artwork (see image entiled sample cover image). The artwork needs to be original and should represent the research we carried out.
Our work is about the development of a new electrocatalytic water splitting technology that can store electrical energy in the form of hydrogen. Hydrogen is considered clean fuel. The main inventive part is an electrode made of a nickel foam that is coated with a layer of metal borates. The metal borate is an electrocatalyst that can split water (H2O) into hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2) gases. If we zoom into its surface with a microscope, it appears as intertwined nano-sheets. I envision the cover image to be a metal foam submerged in sea water, where the water is split into H2 and O2 gases (bubbles). the artwork should also illustrate the nanosheet microstructure of the coated metal foam. To help you better visualize the idea, I included an image with a similar concept from previously published work. In the initial image submission of your work, please DO NOT include journal name “Advanced Energy Materials”
Additional Notes
Note 1: I noticed some confusion about the metal foam so I included here some real images showing what it is and how it appears under a microscope. It can also be represented as a mesh or fabric as shown in the sample cover image. In our research, we coated this metal foam with nanosheets that I would like to appear in the artwork. Another image is inserted here for a typical illustration of nanosheets.
Note 2: The sample cover image shows a metal mesh coated with nanosheets for water splitting. It started with the metal mesh and then zoomed into one wire from the metal mesh to show that it is simply made of intertwined nanosheets. You can also see that the electrode is submerged in sea water. This is a very good example of what I am looking for. Differences can be in how you design the metal foam/mesh and the nanosheets. The cover image should be made with a 3D DESIGN SOFTWARE. Simply combining/cropping sample pictures attached to this description will not work. I am looking for innovative 3D designs as shown in the sample cover image.
ANOTHER IDEA FOR THE COVER IMAGE
One can also illustrate our research by presenting the metal foam electrode described above in the center on a dark background. This electrode is part of a zinc battery that can power on a lightbulb connected through a cable. See example attached (title sample cover image 2).
