"Each winning Entrant agrees to assign to DOE the entire right, title, and interest throughout the world in and to each Subject Invention."

Am I reading this wrong, or are entrants are expected to give away the intellectual rights to an innovative, impactful, never-seen-before turbine wheel for $7,000? Cause for an industry soon-to-be worth $20 billion that's an unreasonable request and I doubt it can materialize.

Good afternoon, Ruben. Please read the entire section on intellectual property ownership. DOE takes ownership in inventions conceived or first actually reduced to practice in the course of this contest. The terms of the contest are explicit in that DOE will not have any rights in existing background intellectual property except for a limited copyright license.

I have entered into other contests for the DOE under the American Made Challenges series. In those challenges the goal is to insight growth of these industries. Inherently these funds are designated to go to U.S. based companies but there is no restrictions on teaming up with foreign entities. On this basis I am happy to accept partnerships with individuals that need to be teamed up with an american LLC like mine. If you are interested in a partnership like this let me know and we can talk further.

    Contest Holder,

Would it be possible for you to upgrade this to a #guaranteed contest?

    https://www.freelancer.com/support/contest/what-is-a-guaranteed-contest-1475

And, could we perhaps submit 2 entries (i.e. one entry containing the actual work and another entry containing a placeholder for the entry containing the actual work)? So, if I submit work and it enters as Entry #5, let’s say; I’d submit another entry as a reference to Entry #5, which would have its own entry number (e.g. Entry #8).

This is a formality that the funds for DOE contests comes from the American people in the form of an income tax. For that reason these funds are to be allocated to growth of American based companies. This does not restrict designers from teaming up with American companies in order to compete.
