Need the following assignment ( word count 900) to be done before 28 May 2014.
Academic paper entitled ‘Self-Sustainable Energy
Efficient Long Range WiFi Network for Rural Communities’ (Ab-Hamid
et al., 2011), part of which is reproduced in Appendix A. The
article itself is too technical for general readership, but the ideas are of
interest to supporters.
Read the extract in Appendix A and prepare a short article for the
supporters’ magazine entitled ‘Bridging the digital divide in rural Central
Asia’ covering the following aspects:
(ii) An explanation of what is meant by the terms [url removed, login to view], WiFi and
(iii) An illustration of the differences in the digital divide and energy use in
Malaysia and Nepal using information obtained from the
WolframAlpha website (see Activity 34 in Block 6 Part 1 for more on
WolframAlpha). Complete and include Table 1 (below) as part of your
Table 1: comparison of aspects of digital divide in Nepal and Malaysia
Statistic Nepal Malaysia
Percentage of population using the internet
Number of languages spoken by at least 1% of
Electricity generated per year
Electricity generated per year through solar, tide
(iv) A discussion of the barriers to bridging the digital divide that exist in
Malaysia compared to Nepal. Use your completed table above and the
Appendix A excerpt as your main non-TU100 sources for this task.
(v) An explanation of why powering a long range WiFi network, in the
remote rural area around Bario, using energy harvesting, might be cost
effective. Include any advantages and problems associated with using
solar power for this, and briefly discuss one other potentially suitable
energy harvesting method.
Your answer to Task 1 must be no more than 900 words in total, with
around 150 words for part (ii), 250 words for part (iv) and 300 words for
