Two writings:History 1) 350-500 word discussion post. From 3pg. pdf reading, "Letters from indentured servants are excellent gateways into the minds of the English men and women who worked in the Chesapeake during the early years of colonization." Reflect upon the misery that Richard Frethorne expressed to his father in 1623 by answering the discussion prompt in one original post. 2) 500-700 word essay. From 20 pg pdf Explain the challenges that Virginians encountered during the early 1600s. How did people in Virginia attempt to remedy their social and economic problems? How effective do you think they would have been? After reading “Serving Time in Virginia,” what are your new thoughts about the people who chose—or, in the case of slaves, were forced—to make a life in the colony? Have your opinions of Captain John Smith, Pocahontas, or indentured servants and slaves changed? Minimum length is 500 words. Feel free to incorporate additional questions, but be sure to start with these. Be sure to structure your essay in a traditional narrative format with an argument/thesis statement, introduction, body paragraphs with examples from the readings, and conclusion. To cite passages from the reading, placing the page number in parenthesis is fine.
