Analysis of Clocked power for Low power CMOS circuits

This paper focuses on energy conversion in CMOS circuits which is necessary to represent the change of
signal value. There is one irreversible energy conversion where electrical energy can be converted into
heat. To change this one way conversion, there has been introduction of another form of energy called “
Magnetic field energy”. This is often referred as Energy –recovery model. This is not possible for the
circuits running with Dc power. So, it is very necessary to study the circuits running with AC power which
acts as a clock. There is another method called “Adiabatic Switching”. This is used to reduce the energy
dissipation. Clocked CMOS circuits having gradual rising and falling power clock are expected to save
more energy.
Topics this paper will cover:
CMOS Circuits Heat Dissipation
Energy Calculation of CMOS circuits
Different switching techniques
Comparing them with Adiabatic Switching
Why Adiabatic Switching is important
What makes rising time and falling time important
Effect of rising time and falling time on threshold voltage
Clocked CMOS circuits equations
Comparison of CMOS and clocked CMOS circuits
Comparison of efficiencies of both the circuits
