Website and instant messenger chat has become a standard method of customer support. There is currently many different website chat systems available from a variety of providers at different costs.
Integrating these with existing internal chat systems has been difficult and the selection and features available are restricted. Most chat providers do allow multiple methods of client connection as a XMPP client however. Also as internal messaging becomes more prevalent in the corporate environment customers expect B-to-B direct integration. Internal chat systems do not have the ability to offer a single team chat profile or queued chat to customers. Adding to further difficulty with B-to-B federation is the limitation of Office 365 Lync not permitting XMPP federation and only Lync federation.
