I have a series of CSV files each representing a different day (business day – no files for public holidays or Saturday/Sunday). The files are named based on their date and a 3 character prefix eg. CME_20121204.csv. Each file contains 8 pieces of information for each entry. Each entry is specific to a symbol. I would like a tool that allows me to define a symbol and a date range. The tool would then access each CSV file within that date range, locate the symbol and copy the entry to a new CSV file it created. It would then chronologically order the entries and save the file to a designated location. I have attached an example csv file.

Such jobs are my daily practice. I plan to complete the project via writing an Excel macro contained in a separate XLSM file. This approach makes further use of the macro very convenient by offering a Control sheet to identify the current input and output files, active controls (e.g. for inputting symol, date range), etc. This approach makes further use of the macro very convenient by offering the usual Open file dialog or a Control form containing information necessary to identify the current input and output files.
