I am a Sales and Marketing professional, and I have held managerial roles for three organisations, two of which are FMCG companies. These companies are large corporates in East Africa.
The first company is a leading African telco and my role was to:
1. Create Sales and marketing plans for my sector.
2. Manage sales executives and below-the-line marketing executives.
3. Manage sales of six product lines.
The second company is an Online store for various FMCG products. My responsibilities here were:
1. Create Online Sales and market plans.
2. Ensure success of our products, particularly those with high margins.
3. Develop media relationships inorder to acquire better advertising rates.
As a result of both roles, I constantly managed which products to actively advertise and which products to remove from our product lines. While negotiating with suppliers it was imperative to project - based on past performance and client buying patterns - sales numbers.
I will be able to deduce very early on which products should be at the forefront of the Marketing team, which products will work in different market segments and as well as give numerical forecasts for the product lines.
