Hi. This should be a pretty simple project. The main issue will be low power consumption for long battery life. That's easily solved with careful hardware and firmware design so the device is in a low-power sleep mode most of the time. I suggest using an off-the-shelf controller module at least for the initial version, to reduce development cost. These are compact, under $20 each, and include a USB connector, so all we'd need is to hook up a battery and the keypad, and develop the custom firmware. You might also want something (LED, buzzer) for user feedback when entering codes; also the firmware probably should have an encryption feature to prevent user hacking. My bid is to document the hardware and software design, deliver two functional demo units, and provide well-documented, cleanly-coded and efficient firmware source code. Also PC software for configuring the device and reading out stored data. Thanks for considering my bid.

Hi, I have been involved in microprocessor based product design for a great many years and on the face of it this project is ver straightforward. Regrettably I dont have any Freelancer credentials as yet (but working on it). However I do have wide experience in product design, PCB design and manufacture from previous companies I have owned. Regarding your project, could you clarify a few points:- 1, This seems like a simple data capture device, using a membrane keypad and presumably some display feedback for the user. 2, Is it to be hand held? Robust? Waterproof? (applies to the PCB as well as the final product). 3, Would you want some of these manufactured? Possibly as part of this request? 4, Would using the mini USB socket for data retieval and charging be OK? 5, Did you have a target cost /unit in mind? Happy to answer any questions you might have. I came across your task and if I read it correctly you want some elecronics designed to record a key sequence and date/time stamp it. To store this data entry and then at a later date (once connected to a PC via USB) download the data to a PC so you have a list of data entry from a particular device ID and each data entry has a time and date. I am not sure what the bid is for? Is it for a design? Working and delivered prototype? Hi, My Background: Manager, Desings. System level expert. I've made many customized hand-held equipment (like RF power meter, high speed 8 channel data logger, RF spectrum analyzer). Most of them were used to log the data. They were USB / Battery powered. Once recorded, you can plug them up to a computer and extract the data and our customized GUI would display the data. I believe i have the right expertise to help you with your project. I still need some details though. Some of them are 1. How long should the battery last. 2. On what basis do i log the time stamp, should i have an RTC that is initially synchronized with a computer ? 3. Do you need any display to show the batter level?
