Hi, I've built several systems like what you are describing, so I know exactly what needs to be done. Here is a list of some of the information you'll need to provide to scope and complete this project:
-What will these systems be used for? (e.g. are you going to run VMs off of them, use them for bulk storage, or something else?)
-What are your performance targets? I've found that for VDI-style VMs, being able to sustain 125-200 IOPS per VM keeps people pretty happy with the performance of each system. The last rig I built had a target of serving 250 of a specific type of Windows VM for a training class/conference, with a secondary goal of having them all simultaneously boot in under 10 minutes (the VMs lived on 8-12 hosts all connected to the SAN via 10Gb ISCSI).
-What are your size requirements for the amount of usable storage on the system?
-What are your requirements for redundancy and failover?
-What type of ethernet do these systems need? Multiple 1G copper? 10Gb Fiber? Other?
-What is your hardware budget?
-Do you have a preferred operating system that you'd like these to run?
-How many of these systems are you looking to build?
-Who will do the actual physical assembly and operating system installation?
Feel free to contact me if you have more questions or would like to discuss further details.
Thanks,
