Data-driven atlas

The goal of this website is to produce an atlas with data-driven interactive maps on commodity data and trade (see two examples below). If you make a success out of this project, we're looking at a longterm relationship with you. The data-driven atlas has to have the following functionalities: -users have to be able to create their own maps with different overlays according to different selected criteria (infrastructure, railroads, etc...) -users must be able to zoom in, pan, etc... -added to this, the user has to be able to make maps indicating trade flows (exporting commodity X to place A, using transport mode 1, etc...); along with this comes a text-page which gives them a rough form of accounting (trading costs for this particular trade) -we, as the owners of the atlas, have to be able to put data into a database you create, which appear on the maps (e.g. a new overlay for rail, or new cost data, etc...); you have to make an easy front-end for us so we can do the inputs into the different categories easily; you also have to create a page for us where we can add new categories and new maps and overlays to the database -you have to assist us on choosing the best mapping system (maybe we could use Google maps and couple our own data to those); alternatively, we're willing to create the maps from scratch in Flash -for the rest, the website is rather simple: a few info pages, a blog, a subscription and payment page, etc... Two examples: 1. A graphical presentation of the World's agricultural tradeflows (WATF) - datadriven maps [this one uses maps that were made from scratch]: [login to view URL] 2. interactive maps of forest cover [this one uses satellite maps]: [login to view URL] -We would prefer to work with Flash (as in the first example), because it gives the smoothest results. But we're willing to consider other options. -Please describe carefully how you would take on this project; which kind of database you're thinking of using, etc... -You have to make the entire website; we don't operate our own server, so you'd also have to assist us on getting everything hosted
