amazon web service consulting to reduce the cost

Hi There I understand that you're using EC2 to do the actual data processing with SQS as the input, and finally RDS to store processed data. I'll not consider SQS to reduce cost because it pretty cheap. The first 1 million monthly requests are free and I'm pretty sure that you're not running SQS at that scale. So SQS can't be an issue in terms of price. My suggestion will be around EC2 and RDS. 1. Change RDS instance type. But I'll need to discuss with you about the application behaviour before coming to a conclusion about the reasonable RDS instance type to use. 2. Remove EC2 completely and shift the business logic to AWS Lambda. But here also I'll need to discuss whether Lambda is possible or not based on your application behaviour. Because lambda needs an event to get triggered and it possess certain limitation like you can't run lambda for more then 5 minutes which means that your application must finish everything within that 5 minutes. I would think that stopping the EC2 instance could save you some money but lets talk. You can also save quite a bit by purchasing reserved instances. The Lambda suggestion you mentioned might work as well but Lambda cant be triggered by SQS so there are other workarounds to consider.

Our approach would be to accept the SQS messages to trigger the event to invoke the jar file and process and store in the RDS database. I have experience in scheduling jobs which read data from SNS and SQS both in AWS EC2 and AWS Lambda. I would suggest reading the data from AWS lambda as it would save a lot of cost. The Lambda container based microservices are definitely suitable for your use case. I would be the best fit for this because, my current application is entirely built on AWS and the RDS Aurora cluster is my backend. My current app has the backend platform built on RDS cluster and the services used are API Gateway, Route53, Lambda, SNS, SMS, SES, DynamoDB for metadata storage, S3 etc. Please let me if we can talk.
