**Development of a departmental website for an educational institution.

**

I encourage you to read carefully all the details. Although it seems a lot, it is not that difficult, but I've learned to be very specific to avoid any regrets later on and what you see here is a lot of details.

PLEASE, do not bid just for the fun of it. make sure you can do the job in the timeframe stipulated. Don't copy and paste your bid request from your saved replies. Make specific comments / questions so your bid will be considered.

Provide reference projects you have done in the past. Don't send screenshots of your work, but actual live websites ...

## Deliverables

**SCOPE OF WORK:

**

To select a pre-designed template in HTML for the development of a departmental website. This template should have the required color scheme and navigational structure required for the website and will be purchased from [[url removed, login to view]][1] or any other template vendor. You will be provided with all the HTML, graphics and Photoshop files.

We have a **similar website** that has all the content for faculty members on a MS SQL database. The site runs queries and it is all pretty much complete in terms of faculty information. Write back and I'll send you the URL.

For our project, we need to query that SQL server to grab any existing data, so we don't have to reinvent the wheel and do everything again. We simply get most of the data from that database to populate our current website.

Faculty members should be able to edit their profiles (education, personal info, publications, etc) from any website (this means from the original site with the SQL and our current website). You can copy all the scripts to do this as they are working just fine in the other website.

**What is difference between the first site and our current project ? you are probably asking yoruself ....**

**1) ** In our website, faculty will have the option to add pages of their own and they should be able to edit the pages using an online HTML WYSIWYG editor (we are buying this software as well). This feature should be carefully designed so that Faculty member **A** does not edit / delete a page created by Faculty member **B.

**

**2) ** Also ... we need to get rid off an Excel spreadsheet all faculty members use to register students in the course. Attached see an example spreadsheet which I think could be easily handled with an Access database.

**3)** We should setup an control panel where the website administrator can upload course information that includes the following data:

Course season: i.e. Fall 2005, Spring 2005

o Course number

o Course section

o Course code

o Course title

o Course credits

o Lecture hours

o Lecture room

o Lab hours (if applicable)

o Lab room (if applicable)

o Professor (s)

o Professor Email Address **(to notify when someone has registered)

**o Pre-requisites

o Restrictions

o Notes: i.e.: maximum enrollment per section

Any faculty member will be able to log on to the biology website and pull the courses that have

been setup by the administrator. He / She will be able to register students by filling out a

Faculty Registration Form that includes the following fields:

o Student last name

o Student first name

o Social Security Number

o Student registration date

o Check for permission to register

o Notes field in case faculty wishes to add any notes.

o Waiting list

Perhaps the course professor (for each particular course) can receive an email when someone has been registered on his / her course.

We need to print a report of all the courses and the registered students / and waiting list for each course. We can probably use a pull down menu to do this query for printing.

**Suggested Goals:**

To develop the website using HTML, CSS and ASP code so that it could run on Internet Information Server.

To provide an administration area for the site administrator so he/she can update the biology courses offered at any one time

To provide an administration area for faculty members to register students for courses and edit their own profile.

To provide an easy mechanism for implementation and maintenance

To provide code documentation for those pages written in Visual Basic Script (ASP).

We have changed the scope of work. Please review the information and provide your new quote. We are NOT asking you to lower your quote, but to increase it or decrease it based on the new scope of work.

We had to make some adjustments and get rid of some area that were too confusing; now the site is much simpler and the requirements are more specific.

As always, any work outside the scope of work will be considered extra and will be paid extra accordingly.

Thank you.
