asp.net/vb - limiting the number of characters of a text displayed from a db

I need a script which limits the number of characters being displayed in a datalist. For example if the text in the db cell is 150 charcters long, only the first 50 must be displayed. Basicly it must do: -Check if the string is longer than the allowed amount otherwise do nothing. -cut the string down to the maximum number of characters specified. -Check if the character right after the cut point is a space if not, we are in the middle of a word and need to remove the rest of it. This will be implemented into an existing asp.net/vb page which is prepared by using dreamweaver mx2004's asp.net functionalities. I've uploaded the web site. The file needing this script is "[login to view URL]", field to be limited is in the line numbered "86","<%# [login to view URL]("ProductDescription", Container) %>" ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law.
