I have a utility that runs each evening and appends text to the end of hundreds of files on Desktop computers, and lasts about 5 minutes per computer; It **appends** **data to** **9000 files** on the hard drive.
Since the files must be separate (not one large file), we have to speed up the file appending.
The solution as proposed in another bid is to use the **CreateFileMapping** and **MapViewOfFile** Windows APIs.
So this is a simple job but needs to be done quick, and I have no experience with those two functions.
What I need is the following:
1. An example of using **CreateFileMapping** and **MapViewOfFile** to **append** a **string of data** to the end of a file as **quickly** as possible.
2. The function for that will be:
**AppendData(LPCSTR FileName, LPCSTR Data)
**
3. If the file does **not exist** then **create** it.
4. Append data to the end of the file.
The files are about 300KB each, and I am appending anywhere from 1 row to 100 rows of data per file. By "row" I mean a line of text with line break. The row of data is usually under 50 bytes. But all this shouldn't matter... you are just going to append text to the end of the file using those two Win32 functions.
This job needs to be done by the **end of today** (before Monday morning).
