Problem: user call the IT and say: mail/internet is not working, come and fix it.
I want a little Java software, that do lots of automated testing and find out what is the problem (no ip address, no dns, no gateway, no cable ......), and present it to the user in a nice way with propositions of solving the problem. The software must run on Mac OSX and MS Windows so i think of Java, but feel free to propose another crossplatform language, that can generate a nice GUI.
The developer must have some knowledge on how Internet works (IPs, netmasks, nat, routes). I can help on the Internet part, but i prefer that you are independent.
Update:
The program must do the following tests and display the info on screen:
- do the interfaces are enabled?
- do i have a link up (on ethernet, on wifi)?
- do i have ip@? is from a dhcp?
- verify that the ip/mask/net/gw are logic.
- ping gate?
- have DNS? ping DNS?
- can i traceroute out? do i get something after my gate?
- ping google, yahoo
- get my real ip, if i'm on a private ip
After each test, print the result in a ckeck box type (green/red).
