I'm looking to build a coupon database. The data for each coupon will be:
Vendor/Brand
Product
Coupon Value
Purchase requirements
Expiration Date
Coupon Source (will likely be 3 fields, the name of the source, the date of the source, and the region of the source (not all coupons will have a region))
Input by
Much of this information can be gleaned from the barcode on the coupon. I've attached a coupon image with a brief explanation of what the data looks like on a typical coupon.
I've also attached a txt file that explains the parts of the barcode in more detail.
The biggest challenge is coming up with the vendor and product codes, the coupon value code is fairly simple. If your solution requires purchasing that data, please include that in your bid.
Here is a site that has a coupon decoder already built: [login to view URL]
You have to register to use it, but it's free. This site strictly decodes, it doesn't track sources, expiration dates, etc.
There are two parts to this project: building the system of inputting the data, and building the html output of the data
For input, I will be using a usb scanner that can read the barcode and will submit the equivalent of pressing enter after the barcode is scanned. I will need to confirm/adjust the expiration date of the coupons, ideally with a calendar picker rather than just a field. Coupons tend to come in batches with similar expiration dates, so ideally that field will stay the same until I change it. Likewise, large groups of coupons will be scanned from the same source at a time, so the source info should be 'sticky' as well.
For output, visitors to my site will use the data to look up available coupons and their sources from unexpired coupons. Typically they will look up based on manufacturer and product, though searching on other data, such as the coupon value will be appropriate as well. For each coupon, there should be a copy-able text block that displays data in a format commonly used by coupon users. Additionally I would need a way for users to alert me to errors in the database.
Here are some other online coupon databases:

Part of what I hope to do to differentiate my database from others is the addition of regional searches. Most online databases don't classify coupons based on region, which makes it challenging to use them.
Eventually this database will be used with a matchup system to match grocery store sale prices to coupons in the database, but that will be a separate project.
Please post links to relevant projects that you've done in your bid. Ask questions. This is complicated and if you don't ask questions I'll assume you haven't actually read this far.
If you're brand new to freelancer, please don't bid.
Also, I really am unsure of what's involved in this, so feel free to bid outside my range, but explain what's involved. I don't mind paying for good work.
