MySql 5.x and above have basic Geo spatial abilities built in, however these are quite simple and not ready for full GIS use. There are some extensions that have been built that add in some/all of the missing functionality and the source is available for these. However there isn't a deployable package available for Ubuntu 9.10. I want the GIS extensions to be integrated in the the Ubuntu MySql branch and produce a deployable package (ie be able apt-get to deploy it) as well as detailed instructions on how to do the integration and building the package. MySQL 5.1 GIS Snapshots is available at: [login to view URL] Ubuntu MySql branch is at: [login to view URL]~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/karmic/mysql-dfsg-5.0/karmic ## Deliverables The final result may be made available to the community so it must not contain any material that can't be released under the same license as MySql.
