Hello,

We are using Windows Defrag tool as our benchmark for both speed and defrag quality. The current algorithm takes around 24 minutes and Windows defrag takes around 16 minutes (for a 5G HD).

In addition to the speed, the number of remaining fragmented files is too high.

The current algorithm is very simple, so we are looking for someone with algorithm skills to create a much better one (comparable with the results obtained using Windows Defrag tool.

The algorithm will be able to take date from the drive map and create a list of files to move. The code to create the drive map and handle the moving of the files is already written and tested.

In addition, we would like the new algorithm to be adjustable by the user as our target audience love to tweak and play with things. We are not 100% sure what the adjustable parameters would be, so might need to think about this some more. Or maybe you might be able to help us with this as the algorithm is developed.

We have 2 options, either get the company to write the algorithm (in a textual format) and then code it our selves, or get the company to code it as well. This depends on the price.

Here is a brief description of the defrag tool.

oDefrag drive/folder/file(s)

oAbility to defrag [url removed, login to view]

oAbility to defrag Hiberfile.sys.

oAbility to defrag Directories.

oAbility to exclude files/folders.

oAbility to move specific files to the start or end of the drive.

NTFS and FAT32

Supported Systems

Microsoft Windows 2000, XP and 2003. (All revisions)

Thanks,

Dan

## Deliverables

2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables):

a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment.

b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request.

3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement).
