Add two "file upload" buttons (BROWSE) so that users can directly upload texts files with the gene list without cutting and pasting.
The problem I am having:
-how to get the site to 'choose' to use only one source of data when it is uploaded via the text boxes or the file upload?
-how to deal with the fact that the CGI variable type is different depending on whether the uploaded item is a text list or a file.
It seems to me the file may have to be opened first and the contents put into $pop_genes for the script to work. This still leaves the question of how to ignore the textbox input however...
Below are the relevant lines from the site:
HTML Page
<form method="post" action="[login to view URL]" ENCTYPE="multipart/form-data">
<textarea name="pop_genes" rows="10" cols="85">
</textarea>
CGI-SCRIPT
my $pop_genes = $query->param("pop_genes");
...
open(NFF, ">$scratch_dir/pop_genes.$$");
print NFF $pop_genes;
close(NFF);
I am looking for a simple and elegant solution that does not involve any extra software, paradigms, frameworks or other fancy add-ons. Just a simple and straightforward solution in perl or javascript.
The relevant HTML and CGI files are available here:
1 - The most straightforward and simple fix will win the bid.
2 - The page must work with most browsers and OS's
## Deliverables
The cgi script and the html form involved are provided in a zipped archive. The perl application itself that receives the arguments is also provided for reference as well as documentation about it.
