ajax feature to fade in photos

I have an existing website - [login to view URL] - that I need to convert from flash to xhtml so that it is easier to maintain. A previous coder has completed the photo gallery slideshow with fade-in/out. Another coder completed the instant appear/disappear feature when you click on the Text/Photo links in the lower left corner of most pages. This new version can be seen at [login to view URL] To complete this project, I need one, or possibly two, more features added. 1. Fade In Photos. If you click on any page on the original site you will notice that the photo fades out/in. Further, if you click on any food item on the Menu pages, the photo changes and fades in. I need to replicate this on the xhtml site. The previous coder (the one who added the appear/disappear feature) was unsuccessful in making this work. Instead of fading in, the photo blinked first (quite noticeably) and then faded in. I am not sure why the first coder could make the photo gallery work but the second coder could not make the other pages work. I really need this to work EXACTLY like the original site. 2. If possible, I would like to improve the instant appear/disappear feature. On the original site, the screen stays exactly in place when the text/photo is selected. In the new site, the screen moves to the top of the page when this text/photo is selected. I would like it to work the way it does in the original site. I want to emphasize that the goal is to make the xhtml site look EXACTLY the same as the Flash site. I've been told by many people that this is achievable through ajax/jquery but if you do not believe it is, please do not bid.
