I need a solution that will automatically back up pre-determined folders on my laptop. Requirements: 1. The system must always create a full backup 2. The system must back up only a configurable list of folders 3. The system must honor a configurable exclude list, which shall support excludes by extension and directory/pathname 4. Each entire backup must be contained in a single .[login to view URL] (gzipped tar file (preferred!)) or .zip file. 5. File creation and modification times must be preserved 6. The archive must be encrypted with GnuPG --encrypt with a key name given. Coder to generate and deliver dummy public/private key pair for testing. 7. The resulting .gpg file must be copied to a remote Linux/UNIX server via scp. 8. This backup must automatically sense which network I am connected to, based on my "Wireless Network Connection"'s DNS Suffix. I connect to one of two networks regularly, and configure the destination host based on the network. 9. If I am not connected to a recognized network, the backup must abort. 10. Configuration may be in a plain text file, or graphical. 11. Using 3rd party applications is acceptable with prior permission and explanation of license. 12. The backup must attempt to copy all files, even if they are in use. 13. The backup may skip files that are not accessible. 14. If the backup skips files, those files must be listed in the status log. 15. The backup must send the log to a pre-determined email recipient upon completion or failure. 16. The backup system must automatically rotate files on the remote host, ensuring that no more than X backup files are left on the remote host, where X is configurable. 17. The backup system must remove all temporary files on the local host (laptop) upon completion or failure. 18. The final solution does *not* include restore functionality, but the coder must verify correct operation using standard commands. I already use and approve the following applications: 1. gpg (GnuPG) 2. pscp (PuTTY scp program) ## Deliverables Milestones/dates: Note dates are latest accepted dates. Earlier delivery is strongly encouraged! Phase 1 - Requirements negotiation and Design Deliverables: 1. Design document outlining proposed solution from a functional standpoint, including any 3rd party software required. 2. Complete test plan/matrix (at least one test case to verify each requirement) MS Word, Rich Text, or plain text is acceptable. During Phase 1, I expect frequent communication regarding design decisions and any requirements clarification/modification required. Phase 1 Deadline: 3 days from bid acceptance. Phase 2 - Development In Phase 2, you will code the complete solution to a functional state. Even if there are bugs or minor missing features, I want to see the feature-complete code by this date. Deliverable includes: 1. Full source code 2. Binary code (if source code requires compilation) 3. Generated "dummy" public/private key pair 4. Sample backup generated using the current source Phase 2 Deadline: 3 days (6 days from bid acceptance) Phase 3 - Testing and Bug Fixes In Phase 3, you will test against each requirement, per the test plan agreed upon in Phase 1. The final deliverable from you will be an annotated copy of the Test Plan indicating the success or failure of each test. All tests must pass, for my final acceptance and release of funds. If certain tests prove to be invalid, you will need to propose revised tests that cover the requirements. If only minor bugs remain, I may elect to accept early and fix the bugs in-house in the interest of time. Phase 3 Deadline: 3 days (9 days from bid acceptance) 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). ## Platform Host to be backed up: Intel Laptop running Windows XP Tablet Edition. Has pscp and gpg already. Destination host: Standard Ubuntu Linux install, but should work on most any flavour of UNIX/Linux with sshd(8) running.
