After receiving the go-ahead to build a DMAIC Six Sigma project from Julianne Ruddock, President of Print Right, and having gone through a thorough Define phase, Keesha Grifin was excited to move on to the measure and Analyse phase of the project.

While Keesha was preparing her define phase, inspector Hector Jones convinced Eric McKeever to train three operators and incorporate a quality assurance system. Each operator therefore needed to assess the inspection standards against the customer’s requirements. Hector gave training on what was a good print to the three operators. Keesha was not convinced that it was a good choice and decided to run an MSA.

For the following questions, use spreadsheet labeled: Assignment2 [url removed, login to view]

Question 1:

Use the table in tab ‘Q1’ of the spreadsheet to prove that Keesha was right in conducting the MSA.

Keesha proceeded to convinced Black Belt Tuan Kopke to invest in a Fluzo HD-O-550 optical crosshair measuring system that measures the alignment of printed crosshairs. When the two + are aligned, the printing is perfectly adjusted and the absolute distance measured in mm is 0. Sampling of the measurements will allow for a more accurate and precise quality measurement system. A representative from the Fluzo Company attached a test unit and Keesha gathered measurements from 10 different batches.

Question 2:

Use table in tab ‘Q2’ of the spreadsheet to prove that Keesha is correct in requesting this investment and that the measuring system will provide the specifications required.

After running many type trials, Keesha decided to look at the capability of her process. This will serve as a good baseline for future reference and will help her convince Eric McKeever that there are controllable factors affecting the production quality.

Question 3:

Use table in tab ‘Q3’ of the spreadsheet to display the process capability. (Assume historical mean of .09mm and an USL of .097mm)

Keesha used her fishbone and decided to measure a few vital Xs in order to sift through potential improvements.

Question 4:

Use table in tab ‘Q4’ of the spreadsheet to display the relative magnitude of the sources of variation.

After consultation with Hector Jones and others on her team, Keesha wanted to confirm the hypothesis that relative humidity might have an effect on the alignment.

Question 5: Use table in tab ‘Q5’ of the spreadsheet to make an inference about the effect of the relative humidity.

For the above questions, use Minitab and include your outputs by pasting the graphs and relative session outputs.

Notes:

Partial marks will be given however late assignments will not be accepted.

Each question is worth 2 points for a total of 10.
