Design a microwave, write code about it and explain it in 1500 words written report. Background The microwave oven is an essential utility for the modern household with its ability to warm food up rapidly by the use of microwave radiation, generated by a magnetron, through a process called dielectric heating. Many modern microwaves incorporate both microwave heating as well as a traditional hot element based grill/oven features which allow for the browning of food, enhancing its appearance and flavour. By combining these two features it is possible to produce food having a similar appearance to that cooked in a traditional oven but in a much shorter time, both increasing convenience and saving energy. Most microwave ovens incorporate an embedded system to provide a simple interface to allow the user to control the essential features such as: cooking time, cooking mode (grill/microwave/combination), and cooking power. A digital display is often provided to feedback essential information. During cooking process the food rotated using a turntable to even out the spread of microwave radiation thus reducing the potential for localised cold spots which could be a health risk. Because of the dangers of close proximity to microwave radiation, microwaves have a cut-off sensor that detects when the door is opened and disabled the magnetron. Aim To develop a C program to simulate the embedded system contained in a combination microwave/grill oven and to evaluate its operation using the Matrix Multimedia E-Block PIC Development system. The inputs to the system are simulated by pushbutton switches and the built-in transducers. The LCD is used to display the options and show essential information including the cooking time. LEDs are used to simulate relays (for controlling magnetron, turntable motor, grill element and buzzer).
