I have a table of reference records that have been copied and pasted from employee reference letters and resumes, call it tblRefsAll. The fields are firstname, lastname, yachtname, companyname, etc.
TblRefsAll has 6276 records that have duplicate data in them, because some candidates have a reference letter that the data was transcribed from, as well as a resume that the data has been transcribed from.
What needs to be done is:
1) review the duplicate records
2) if one record has an email address and the other has a phone number, consolidate the info into one record and delete the other
3) if both records have the same reference first name and yacht or company name, but differing contact information for each record, leave both records
The goal is to have only ONE reference record for each prior employer, but in some cases, because there is only one phone number field and one email address field, we will have to have two separate records to contain all the possible contact info for that referee, if for example, the reference has two phone numbers, or two email addresses.
Once tblRefsAll is de-duped, it then needs to be Appended to another References table called CandidateReferences, _without creating any duplicates.
_
See, we have been using CandidateReferences table to store the reference information, but recently scrubbed all the data from the reference letters and resumes, and need to add that to this table. But, if we append a reference record that is the same as a reference that is already in our CandidateReferences table, then we will be irritating the people who have already verified the reference for us. At all costs, I do not want to ask someone to verify a reference for someone, if they have already done so in the past.
So, suggestions welcome.
