Convert wordpress to an Online shop with an shop POS system

Project Brief

Current Situation

At present the company has no online presence, all the transactions are completed in a physical shop using a till loaded with “4pos POS system” software. All products can be exported from this system in a CSV file, it is a flat database however with no compartments at present i.e. trousers, ties, shoes etc. A website has been created but has yet to go live, this has been created in the word press system.

Scope

To integrate the current database into a new online system which sells both online and has the POS system for in shop. When an item is sold either online or in store, it is to be removed from both places instantly. The retailer sells vintage clothing, every item is a one off and therefore no stock control or reordering system is required. The solution needs to have good SEO optimisation.

Project management

It is suggested that the project be split into three sections and am happy to assign milestones to each.

1. Tidy up and improve the general appearance of the site and optimise for search engines. (Not much to be done)

2. Link together the online shop with the POS software on the hosting platform (will provide FTP details) and setup payment gateway.

3. Input the different shop departments and add these to the CSV file then upload the products.

Part 1:

The website has been mostly created and the general appearance is adequate. Any improvements to the look or design will be welcomed, the main element is to get the site ranking high on search engine results. The store has already got a Facebook page it can be linked to as well as a listing on Google maps.

Part 2:

When providing your price I would be grateful if you could outline your proposed solution. I have looked into a few off the shelf packages and have found [login to view URL] as a potential candidate for the POS side and [login to view URL] for the product management and web store end. Note the current site is in word press, this can be changed but a CMS solution will be required to make changes to its pages. I’m not opposed to there being a link on the main page which takes you to the store as long as this won’t affect SEO results. If you believe there is a better way of achieving this then please suggest it. When quoting please only quote for your labour, if anything like kassanova needs buying, I will purchase separately. The payment gateway to be used will be PayPal. Once part 2 is complete I would like to a pause for at least a week to test the site and complete staff training.

Part 3:

As already mentioned there are no departments currently. A list of all departments would be provided and every item has a description which would allow anyone to identify which department the product is to go in. Typical descriptions are “80’s black dress with silver trim” it therefore should be easy to determine which category to enter. At a guess I would think our product database contains between 1000 and 1500 items. Time for this section would be essential, the stock CSV file would have to be uploaded to you no later then 8PM (English time) on a Saturday, all products would then need to be imported into the database and ready to be used by 7am the following Monday. If this is not achieved then any work will have been lost as the database will change again after that.
