You will design and develop a portal website that provides a range of information on a topic of your choice, with links to relevant websites. ‘Portal’ is defined as a site that provides a range of information and links to resources on a topic of interest. Overrecent years, topics have included: Football teams Rugby clubs Fashion Sports Musical instruments and musicians; Cinema Celebrities Cookery Hobbies Travel The website will provide a linked set of HTML pages, and must include an external CSS file to support a uniform style for the pages. It must contain at least five HTML pages. These should include: A homepage (must be named [login to view URL]). A page of annotated links pointing to relevant websites (meaning that a small amount of additional information describing the linked site should be provided for each link). A page providing background information relevant to the topic you’ve chosen. A page justifying the design of your website. In this page you can explain why you site has been designed in this way. You should justify design decisions by referring to web design literature. The following points should be borne in mind when preparing this assessment: Use of online resources is both encouraged and acceptable (i.e. Javascript code, colour wheels), but the work has to be primarily your own design, and demonstrating your ability to present a functional website. Use of online resources should be cited (via hypertext link – there is no need for Harvard or Numeric citation) in the page justifying your design. You should not use Dreamweaver templates (or templates derived from other web design software). You should not use pre-rendered Dreamweaver layouts (or layouts derived from other web design software). Any use of external site-building software to aid the design is forbidden. If we suspect use of these resources we will investigate. You should not use HTML framesets. Copyright: Use of images, video and other material on your site should adhere to UK Copyright Law. We suggest that all images used (beyond those for which you already own copyright (i.e. photos you’ve taken on a camera or mobile phone)) are licensed for use under Creative Commons. Where you do use Creative Commons material, please follow any instructions that might be specified for display on your site.
