Create a Qt Widget which holds a window from another application (CEFClient), and communicates with this application.
I want to embed the CEF (Chromium Embedded Framework) browser into my Qt application. Unfortunately this seems difficult to do by adding the CEF code to my app, so I want to try a different method.
Fortunately CEF provides an example browser on mac/win, called CEFClient.
I would like a custom Qt Widget created which fires off an instance of CEFClient, and holds the CEFClient window within the custom widget. Theoretically this should be fairly easy to do (needs to compile/run on win/mac). I know you can provide a window ID to a QWidget instance in a static method, QWidget::create i think, and there's an open source class called QxtWindowSystem which contains logic for finding windows and adding their ID to a QWidget.
The other things to make sure that work are resizing etc...
the only other part of the project is to provide some IPC mechanism to communicate between the two apps, so I can control the CEFClient process. boost ilc might be a good choice here.
