So currently for every salescode/product we have a folder and in that folder we have a variety of drawings schematics etc... the problem is many products share parts so the drawing [login to view URL] is in 20 folders. The challenge being that if we modify the drawing now we need to copy it to 20 misc folders.
What we want:
All the drawings in one folder. When production wants to build a product they say click a link or open a folder or something (that something being indicated by the salescode/product number) and "the program" will create a zip folder with all the appropriate drawing/documents in it and the zip will be named based on the sales code.
Program setup goals:
Ideally the setup of new products in the program should be easy, each product will have a number and a description, the product will be made up of a variety of files all stored at a central location. We could work the management of that a number of ways. The products and their related files could be stored/defined: 1 in the program GUI, 2 in a spread sheet, 3 individual txt file containing the associated file names of all the file for a product, 4 some other super creative but simple to manage method you come up with.
The most important part of this program is that the user who wants to create the zip of a product this process needs to be simple. If it takes a few steps to add new products that's not a huge issue. Stated another way, that part of the program that is used to select a product and get a zip file with all the associated product documents needs to be simple very simple.
