'm attaching my draft so far, which I would like to be nicer, just a general idea. Note the banner of photos up top I would like to remain scrolling across the screen so it's always "moving". Also, the fonts and other details can be changed, these are just draft ideas of overall presentation. The background photo you chose is good, so keep that as a background under these "buttons".
I wasn't sure how to represent it on the draft, but I do want to show a couple of months of calendars with clickable events entered on the calendar as appropriate, aside from the general event calendar which would have the entire list on it. The calendars can be in either the left or right margins, your choice, next to the clickable tabs I'm showing you. The thought behind the "members" tab was to have all the searchable member details under that tab, but at least have each area that's relevant readily visible and clear. Not sure where to put a "blog" or "wall", but probably under the "Members" tab have an entire screen appear with all the additional details, plus member search criterion listed. RIght now it's so far from being user friendly, I wanted it to be much more so. Basically the items on the bar across the top would be viewable from anyone visiting the site (after age verification). The lower buttons would be unavailable until someone had signed up for no less than a free membership.
The very first thing that should come up when going to the site should be the age verification thing. Perhaps two things...age verification AND login buttons. If they're already a member, they can log in right there. If not, they can do the age verification THEN go to the home page automatically, where they can sign up or log in. However, the "Welcome" and "Events" tabs should be viewable by anyone visiting the site. We often refer people to our site to read the welcome letter and view the calendar of events, then if they like what they see, they can sign up for whatever they wish after joining. The welcome letter and other copy will need to be modified somewhat, but we need to see how the rest of the site looks before we can nail that part down.
