I have experience researching with image processing tools and wavelet theory. I believe that, if your goal is to evaluate the performance of the salient scheme proposed by Božić-Štulić et al. inside a larger framework you might be developing, it shouldn't be a problem to use OpenCV implemented functions to build up the model. We can discuss if the implementation needs to be optimised in some way (i.e, computation time or resources) and other GPU-integrated possible proposals.
