ESP8266 quering RGB color from URL

Hi, I have worked on ESP8266 before for my home automation projects. A few quick questions that come to my mind. Do you want to provide a RGB value based on the MAC address? If so, what we can do is have a database with the RGB value against each MAC address and expose an API (link) which the ESP can call to which will return the RGB value. Lets discuss. Thanks!

I have some questions ... Will the SSID be hard-coded in to the program? Or do you want it to be stored in a configuration file on the SPIFFS? Is the LED to be controlled a regular LED or a (4-pin) RGB LED? Will the URL be HTTP or HTTPs? I ask because - even though you say you are not worried about security - connecting to a HTTPs server on the ESP8266 is a lot tricker than connecting to a regular HTTP server. Also ... If you decide to use a HTTPs server, then sending a request every 2 seconds might be tricky - as establishing a TLS/SSL connection on the ESP8266 is quite slow. (Using MQTT instead of HTTP might be an option in that case.) What format will the data returned from the server be in (JSON/binary/other)? I have a NodeMCU and Wemos D1 Mini which I can use for development. PLEASE NOTE: This bid is PROVISIONAL until I have full details. I may need to adjust the time and / or time-frame.
