Dear Carol,
I went through a few pages of your draft. Seems like a good story (though it reminded me of Harry Potter, for obvious reasons).
I have been, for the past five years, assisting a US-based Indie (self-published) author in editing his sci-fi and fantasy novels and shorts. I have over 20 years' experience in editing and proofreading, The materials I have worked on range from news articles, to research papers and dissertations, to fiction. I am an aspiring writer myself, though most of my work (mainly sci-fi humour) is still WIP (work-in-progress).
Apart from fixing typos, punctuation, grammar, and inconsistencies, I offer comments and suggestions for improvement, to ensure the book is readable and without errors, and all the loose ends are tied properly. I use the 'record/track changes' option, and files in .doc, .docx or .odt formats are fine with me.
I work slowly, but diligently. From my experience, it takes between three and six months to line edit a 200/250-page novel. If you are happy with that time-frame, I may be happy to reduce the fees as well. In fact, we can work out a mutually satisfying deal in terms of time and money.
Please feel free to contact me. I can also provide a sample page that illustrates my work style.
Best regards,
S. P.
