English is my first language and my skills include technical writing, transcribing, editing and proofreading. My technical writing experience includes editing a variety of manuals. My ongoing freelance work includes editing papers for an online journal for translators and interpreters. I recently edited a 15,000-word document in two days for a client who was so pleased with my work that he paid me a bonus. Other recent work has included editing a complete thesis as well as individual chapters of academic writing. Last month I worked on rewriting a 24,500-word book to change it from a children's book to one suitable to be read by adults, and the result was described by the client as "perfect". I recently finished editing a second book for this client, this time 35,000 words, restructuring the chapters as well as proofreading the content, and again it was "perfect". (These jobs were via Elance.) I worked for two years as a copy editor for Elsevier Science Publishers in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, rewriting text by authors who were not native English speakers. I have worked with individual clients to bring nine books to publication. Having been a teacher of English in high school for several years, I have spent many hours making corrections and suggestions for students' essays.
