Use Microsoft Access Database for comparing two types of forms: Temporary Engineering Instructions and Request for Engineering Instructions.

If there is damage to a rivet hole it requires engineering to repair it correctly. An engineer spends a day or more writing a Request for Engineering Instruction (REI) to have the hole repaired. If another aircraft has damage in the same hole, the engineers should not waste resources doing another REI from scratch. Therefore the engineers need a way to quickly determine whether an REI already exists for a given hole, but since the holes aren't numbered, that is currently difficult.

Map and Catalogue holes on the F-18 in order to streamline the thousands of REIs that the Structures Team must answer each year. By helping to streamline processes and augment the engineering team, NRP members are aiding the reduction of the RBA gap, thus returning aircraft to the flight line

Acronyms/Definitions: LES – Local Engineering Specification

The goal of the hole mapping is to develop LESs. These will then be ‘standard work’ for the artisans.

TEI – Temporary Engineering Instruction

SSP – Standard Skill Packages

Pitch – center-to-center distance between adjacent holes

Edge – distance from center of hole to edge of structure

Ligament – O.D. to O.D. distance between adjacent hole

BP – Blue Print

HFH – High Flight Hour

TRF – Temperature Reduction Factor

CMPRO – Data base that tracks REI/TEI

AFB-Airframe Bulletin

AFC-Airframe Change

e/D – Edge Distance over Diameter

p/D – Pitch Distance over Diameter

O.D. – Outer Diameter

I.D. – Inner Diameter

LEX – Leading Edge Extension

CUM – Boeing Cumulative Production Number

1-9 are NASA and VX-23 test aircraft

BUNO – Bureau Number (Navy aircraft serial number)

CSK – Countersink; a hole drilled for the rivet head to sit inside
