We design wall panels and other building components that are used to construct homes and buildings (Building System).. There are approximately 15 main components (Components) that make up our Building System; all components are designed by us - such a wall panel or a window or other prefabricated component. We subcontract manufacture of ALL Components to other Suppliers. We use a 3D drawing program called Sketchup to draw the house or building. Sketchup has a library and we have populated the Sketchup library with drawings of each of the Components used in our Building System. Each Component has a unique ITEM CODE Once we finish the drawing of a house or building in SketchUp; Sketchup can export a CSV file containing all the Item Codes of the Components in the building. Note - the CSV export from SketchUp: - a. Only lists all the Components in the building by ITEM Code - no other information is in the CSV export; and b. The CSV does not calculate the number of identical Components. For example, if there are 10 identical Components in the CSV file ; then the file will have 10 lines of the same Item Code This project is to build an Excel workbook that can import the CSV file of Components Item Codes from SketchUp auto fill Purchase Order templates (in the workbook) to our Suppliers for all the Components for each house or building

Hi There! I am an Australian Business Analyst (based on the Sunshine Coast) with over 15 years professional experience building complex data transformation and checking tools using Excel, Access, SQL Server etc. I have read through your supplied pdf and would love to have a chat further about your project if you have time. As you have identified and Access solution (or certainly an Access back-end) may be useful for tracking your items and prices. I think would hinge mostly on one question: once you have imported the project and created the purchase order files what do you want to happen? Does the next import over-write the Excel file (the pdfs will of course remain, but the details of the project would be lost)? Or do you want to build up a database of past projects you can query / build reports from? E.g. if you import every project you could then say run reporting of the project costs for the past month, or use this as a tool to cross reference invoices to purchase orders. However, your accounting package may already do this, in which case there is an argument for maintaining this within Excel (easier maintenance, less data storage, etc.) and keeping things simpler. Hello. You have certainly given a lot of information so that makes it easier to prepare a bid. I have been working with Excel for over twenty years so your project should be easy enough to complete. You made mention of accessing a database in your project. If I understood your description correctly, this should not be necessary and the information could be placed in a worksheet on the MPD.
