Hi Excel and SQL expert here, with 12 years of programming experience. I am very good with Excel - formulas, pivots, vlookup and VBA. I was initially thinking that Number of days of coverage will be simply the Stock divided by Average per day sales. But looking at the function FSCOVER, I can see that it is applying some additional logic. So I might have some questions in understanding that logic (or need to spend more time in reading that code), but I can do the required "Inventory needed" calculation in the given budget. N=S/A’ - I ask you the standard delay D of receiving your stocks and the minimum quantity q that you purchase each time, totalizing Q=n.q items. - The total stock needed is at the lowest just before receiving your purchase. So the purchase alert level is D days before, with stock equal to (with security over D) : Min-stock=A’ x (1.5 D) - The total stock is at the highest just after receiving your purchase. So the high value is (Min-stock - A x D + Q). - The quantity to purchase q items to have Q stock that lasts in average D days is : n=AxD/q If n in less than one, it means that the unit purchase q is too big compared to your sales. So you purchase the minimum, 1, each time. In this case, your frequency of purchases will get longer, D= q/A, and so your minimum stocks.
