VB Visio Export to Excel

I am working on a prototype project where I need to convert a Microsoft Visio input file (shapes with description text and links to other shapes) into an Excel file with a specific format. Although I have been able to do most of what I want to with an exported report in Visio, the one key information item I can't get to without VB is the linking between items. I'm looking for someone to do a quick proof of concept to prove that this can be done, and to help explore options for making the solution more robust if it is feasible as an extension to the project.
