I need some help designing 17 product category images for my client's home page. Product images will be taken from each category in the PDF catalog. I have high resolution images for every product (some with transparent backgrounds), but they are NOT vector. So there will be some illustration work involved.
Your job will be to look at each product category, decide which image (or images) best represent the category, and create a design for it. Total of 17 designs. Due to the nature of the products (some are long skinny items), you may need to crop an image (or images) and focus on certain areas of the product(s). The product images must be easily recognized (hint: there are lots of similar items in this catalog, which is part of the challenge). Some items will need to be converted to high quality line art or redrawn. In any case, the main goal is to have a consistent, uniform layout across all category images. I'm looking for slick, modern designs! Creative and original! (Your portfolio should reflect this.)
Note: These designs will be used for navigation on the home page, but you will not have to design a web page layout or perform any coding at all. This project is only for designing 17 amazing product category images. I will take care of everything else.
I'm open to ideas, but here's what I'm picturing:
The home page has a very dark parallax background (this can be altered, but we are pretty happy with a dark background). The category images would look very nice in a grid format (with spacing in between each image) so the parallax background can be seen. Since we're doing a grid style format, It's imperative that each image is the exact same size. Many products are white or neutral colored, so you might have to convert or redraw line art for those items. Other products are too complex and/or too large to be used as a category image (think "large product displays"), so you'll need to think of a creative way to represent some of those items in a smaller format. The landing page uses a full-width layout, and we've got tons of room to work with. Maybe we could go with medium size images in a 3 column layout or larger images in a 2 column layout. Or maybe mix and match in a masonry style format. I am flexible on this. You can use photo backgrounds, line art, or whatever you think looks best. It just needs to be clean, crisp artwork and easy to recognize at a glance.
Designer will need to provide source files after the job is complete (layered PSD or AI format) so that we can make changes later if necessary.

Notice the problem with the existing images? That's what we need to fix. Your design work will replace the existing image/text placeholders.
