Design 2D game characters sets

We need 48 different characters to be used on a card matching game
In fact, we need 144 of them, but as we understand it's hard to think of 144 totally diff characters, we will go with 48 models with 3 colors for each.
We want these characters to be different, but also to look alike they are from the same "set"
Important: To apply for this position, you need either to present previous work or to sketch/draw at least 3 characters to go in a "set"
Characters can be low-poly design, similar to apple arcade ones, as we will eventually do 3d models of them also.
You can choose the theme - animals, aliens, humans, toys... as we have in plan to design several sets for this game - so if you got the job it can be +10x the agreed amount (we will provide details requirements for awarded designer)
