About Free to Be Me
The Course Experience, Core Learning Objectives, Outcomes and Expectations
Over this ten-day course you will have an opportunity to explore the key features of a person-centred approach to dementia care and identify the steps you need to take to develop these features of care within your care setting.
Be Prepared to be Challenged and Supported!
This course is more about doing things differently at work than doing different things in training sessions! Doing things differently at work means more than changing the colour of the walls or developing a different range of “activities” for people. Developing a person-centred approach takes more than adopting new policies, procedures or mission statements. We need to walk the walk as well as talk the talk!
Achieving a person-centred culture of care involves shifting to a strong focus on developing emotional intelligence and resilience and exploring your role in transforming relationships within the care setting so they truly reflect the individuality of the people within it. This transformation means being in these relationships yourself and modeling a person-centred approach, rather than being in the office and managing these relationships from a distance. When it comes to person-centred care professional development, it will almost always involve your own personal growth.
To get the most out of this unique training course:

• Be ready to embrace new learning experiences
• Be open to seeing and doing things differently
