Hi, you not mention your existing joomla version, as per your php version we need to update to 7.x so it's more secure, as per update the php version there may be possibility to some functionality are broken due to some function which use are not compatible to latest php version so we need to make change in it. I suggest we make development server and there first update php and joomla version and then after check all functionality if all work fine then we move or apply same change on live server.
