we have a kiosk application that is dispersed widely across north america. It's a windows platform but we need to need to set up a chain loading boot process where if it is a valid USB it will boot from that; or with no valid USB it boots normally to windows. The USB is booted to by the service techs, so that they can re-image the windows image. What we seek to do, is to enable a boot to a USB but only to a valid USB. The Re-Image USB is oriented around WinPe. Supplemental linux is ok. We think this is Grub at the core, so if you have experience there it will be a big plus.

Hello, I think, WinPe is the option for you because then, you do not need to redevelop the application from start as your current app is based on Windows. If you use Grub, it will be redoing complete application as well as platform. I have worked(6 years ago) on Nero Back ItUp which gave options for create bootable disc/usb and that was linux based and then we wanted to move the program to windows Pe so backing up the system when windows got corrupted.
