This job requires an experienced Mechanical Engineer for a specialized analysis and troubleshooting project. Phase 1: Data Collection and Processing The initial phase entails gathering crucial data from industry partners to construct finite element models in ANSYS. This includes acquiring PAUT corrosion mapping data, tank specifications such as geometry, material properties, loads, temperatures, and details regarding potential variability due to residual stress. Subsequently, the collected data will undergo processing using MATLAB to format it for seamless importation into ANSYS. this is objective of the project, its in different phases. i have done this part in MATAB but i need help with the writing of the methodology and detail explanation of results/ and discussion am struggling to write it Phase 2: Shell modelling and mesh validation This phase is to develop a shell finite element model of the entire tank geometry in ANSYS with adjusted shell element thicknesses and neutral axes based on the obtained ultrasonic thickness measurements. After materials properties and load conditions are applied, the aim will be to ensure the shell finite element mesh has converged and produced realistic stress distributions. A mesh refinement study will be conducted with a focus on demonstrating that the mesh has converged in areas where there are significant thickness losses of the tank wall. For comparison and validation purposes, solid finite element models will also be constructed and will undergo a similar mesh convergence study. with this phase i will need a detailed recording of how the person will do the design in ansys step by step so i can follow the viseo and learn to produce it myself. Phase 3: Analyse and compare finite element models. This phase is to compare the shell finite element model against a solid finite element model to assess the accuracy and suitability of the shell model. This process will involve comparing the differences between the stress distributions of the shell and solid models using a cross-correlation analysis. Careful examination of the stress distributions near significant thickness losses will be undertaken. The finite element model results will also be compared to results obtained from analytical models used by the industry to evaluate structural integrity. The computational time of the shell and solid finite element analysis will be recorded to evaluate and compare the computation efficiency of each methodology. Phase 4: Explore structural integrity evaluation and prediction. This phase is to investigate the application of the model to evaluate the structural integrity of the tank. The stress distribution in the vicinity of significant thickness losses of the tank will be examined and potential failure modes will be investigated. Based on expected corrosion rates, incremental thickness loss progression of the tank walls can be incorporated into the shell finite element model. Based on the failure mode, an investigation into time to failure predictions will be investigated. All finite element simulations and prediction data estimates will be stored on an encrypted hard drive. I wil provide the Matlab code of the tank model and geometry description.
