There are several ways for solving this: 1) create a function in MySql called VALIDATEUSER and send the username as a parameter, it will return the desired message after making a search in your usernames table. 2) Create a Stored Procedure on MySql, let's call it NEWUSERREGISTER and send the username as a parameter, if the user exists then return a error message, otherwise register it. To be honest I didn't understand what you meant by saying: - "Needs to make sure you don't log in with desired username, even if it doesnt register a new one" I am not sure if you're talking about a login system or a register system.
