We have a 94 GB RAM dedicated server hosting a popular website that uses apache, php and mysql. The configuration for mysql has been more or less stable for many years but since the last couple of weeks, mysql becomes unresponsive all of a sudden despite no immediate obvious increase in the number of queries. The site cannot connect to mysql for a number of minutes ranging from 2 to 60 and then everything goes back to normal. The mysql configuration has been based on copy paste jobs from the Internet based on various recommendations but is not based on careful evaluation of server capacity and mysql performance parameters. We cannot make immediate changes to too many queries in the website since a recoding project is anyway underway. What we need is for someone to take a look at the server and mysql configs and work with us over a couple of days to fine tune the mysql config.
