We require a script that will automate the layup of sportswear in Adobe Illustrator for printing. We are a custom sportswear manufacturer and need to lay up garments in a range of sizes for each client (typically XS to 3XL). I would like to automate this process to enable all sizes in a garment to be laid up from a single size. I.e. if we create the layup for a size XS the script should replicate the graphics across each of the sizes. Note, the graphics need to increase according to the size of the garment so that the appearance of the 3XL garment is the same as the XS garment (albeit a lot larger!). NB if this could be done more easily in one of the other Adobe programmes I'm happy to consider this too. See attached 4 files: a. pattern for a cycling jersey. You'll see this is split into layers by size - Cycle_Jersey_Hidden Zip_Inc [login to view URL] b. pattern for the garment with the small size layer populated (this was quite a complex graphic to work with so a useful test to see if this is possible) - [login to view URL] c. a completed version of (b) in three sizes to illustrate the kind of thing we're after from the end product - Cycle_Jersey_Cycloon_completed S to [login to view URL] d. pattern for a triathlon suit (see task 5) In order to quote please review files a, b & c to determine whether or not it is possible to create a script to populate all size layers based on artwork in a single layer. The tasks for this job would be as follows: 1. Identify how the current illustrator file will need to be amended to allow automation, I.e. are the layers grouped correctly, do they all need to be laid out in a certain way, should the layers be named in specific ways, etc? 2. Develop a script to scale the graphics from one layer to the rest of the layers. Does this need to be based on a certain layer each time, or can the script be applied to any layer? I.e. should we always lay up the small then the script will reference that? Please note, the following rules need to be followed to make sure print is laid up correctly: - No logos or text within 20mm of the edge of the panel - We usually increase the size of logos and graphics by 4% between each layer (i.e. graphics on a small garment are 4% larger than on an XS garment, etc. - For garments with a zip (such as the attached pattern) we have a hidden zip. This means we need to allow a 15mm overlap in graphics over a zip line. The zip line is shown by the guideline in the example file. - Graphics crossing the zip line must match in terms of size and location on the panel (so that they line up correctly on the finished garment Output of the script should ideally be a populated AI file with a layer for each size (as is currently the case) 3. Test this script with three layups of previous jerseys that we have designed (I will provide these) 4. Provide a short summary document (bullet points is fine) to instruct how to use the script 5. The pattern provided is for a cycling jersey but we have approximately 16 garments in total, each of them has different panels. We require a script that we can apply to other patterns with different panels. See attached on of our more complex patterns (a triathlon suit) - the script will need to be able to run on this as well. And we would need instructions to set out how to apply this script to our other patterns and any rules that would need to be applied to the input file. I.e. should the naming convention be the same for the sizes in each garment, do the panels need to be laid up in a specific way, etc? Please note - all IP arising from the project would need to be handed over to us After completion of the job above we are also looking for development of the script to: a. create a layup of artwork for sign-off by the client b. lay the artwork up for printing in the most efficient manner Both of these jobs will be discussed upon completion of the initial project.
