Domain question need help

I am dying to find out how the following is achieved:

look at [[url removed, login to view]][1] partner program, an affiliate signup an account, then choose color themes, sitename etc to customize the appearance of his affiliate site, then he registered a new domain [[url removed, login to view]][2], as requested by [url removed, login to view], point the name server of [[url removed, login to view]][2] to a certain server address. Now [[url removed, login to view]][2] is an affiliate site of [[url removed, login to view]][1], but looks like an independent site with its own domain name, color, font configuration etc.

I am sure all of the affiliates' sites point to the same webpages on [[url removed, login to view]][1], they are not making multiple copies of those webpages and database. If the affiliate login into his account and adjust some configurations, like from red to yellow, change sitename etc. The changes will reflect on its site [[url removed, login to view]][2] instantly.

I am working on a project now that requires similiar features. It is not domain parking, since domain parking does not recognize affiliates. It is not domain redirection either, since they don't change the url from [[url removed, login to view]][2] to [[url removed, login to view]][1] when user is browsing, yet it still can credit the affiliate if he made a referral sales.

I am really confused and anyone can give lights on how that was achieved and what is behind it
