Am looking for coder or coders to review the practicality of producing software that can recognize various coin denominations (dime, nickel, etc) and as well as recognize the date on that coin. Purpose of this posting is to review feasiblity of this project and ultimately to produce a working prototype. Variations on that theme would follow but only after signing a Non Disclosure Agreement. If you have experience or knowledge or theory of how to code image/object recognition I would like to discuss further options with you. Example of requirements: given a .gif or .jpg containing an image of a coin the software would need to perform the following analysis and produce a consistent output image: 1) recognize that the coin is a US Quarter, for example, under the following conditions - a small database would contain appropriate form factor info or relevant images of various coins (including a US Quarter) that would be used for image lookup/comparison in order to help identify coins - obverse or reverse side may be shown in the image so program would need to determine this - depending on how the coin was scanned or photographed, one person's image of the coin may be larger than another's so all incoming coin images must be made comparable to some baseline image - image may be color or B&W 2) determine the year of the coin (if the date side is up) or that the non-date side is on the image (in which case a range of minting years could be determined from lookup in the database) 3) determine if any nicks or other imperfections along the perimeter of the coin and, if so, what is the depth of the nick (very important) 4) convert the image to a B&W output image that "repositions" the coin to be always in the "upright" position 5) convert the image to an output image that is of a consistent type (i.e., all .gif) and size (i.e, all US Quarters will be X pixels in length on the output side) as controlled by a small database of coins. For example, if you are processing images of dimes and each image - again depending on how the photo or image was scanned - has a different diameter, then once you recognize the coin as a dime then the program should produce an output image that has a consistent diameter for output dimes) After reviewing options with any appropriate respondents a formal project would be finalized and bid submitted to rentacoder for completion.
